We take a look at ways in which to improve webinar delivery from good to great.

Choosing the Team

A webinar usually has three prime players. The success of the webinar session depends on them and so it is recommended to hand-pick the team beforehand. A webinar can consist of the following people:
  • The Organizer: The organizer or the facilitator is the key individual responsible for developing content for the webinar. They are also responsible for finding a suitable speaker and promoting the event. They are in charge of registrations and communicating with the participants at the beginning and end of the webinar.
  • The Presenter: The Presenter or the Subject Matter Expert should focus on developing and delivering the webinar presentation. He/she looks after webinar programming and troubleshooting, event registration, and other details to help them deliver an engaging presentation.
  • Assistant: Assistants help in answering queries that the Presenter and the Facilitator don’t have much time for. They help by responding to technical queries. (For example, “The audio and video are not in sync!” or “There is no sound!”) Assistants are often required for webinars with a large audience.

Choosing the Webinar Platform

Deciding a reputable webinar platform is necessary before deciding to deliver a webinar. Popular platforms include GoToWebinar, Adobe Connect, WebEx, and AnyMeeting. These days Zoom, the Washington DC based app has fast become the platform of choice for delivering Webinars as it is feature rich and boasts a whole lot of supporting features.
Reputable webinar platforms make it easy for people to register a  webinar, and they support multiple ways for people to join. For example, some people may watch your webinar from their computers, while others might want to join from their phones or smartphone apps.
In addition, some webinar platforms are filled with annoying advertisements and have a limit on the maximum number of attendees. These factors should be kept in mind before choosing the platform.

Promoting the Webinar

This point can’t be stressed enough. It’s imperative to reach as many people as possible through a webinar. Otherwise the whole point of it fails, especially if it’s a live webinar being delivered. Posting the information on social media, creating teasers or trailers and in some cases word of mouth promotions might help.
Even if its a ‘free webinar’, a good promotion is a great build-up to a successful webinar as the audience is already excited to be a part of it. Reputed digital marketing institutes like ours follow the practice of spreading creatives before a webinar is scheduled.

Double Checking the Setup

Technical problems happen with software (or hardware for that matter) from time to time. Even the best of us fall prey sometimes. It is a good practice to be able to avoid them when on the air live by testing the webinar platform much ahead of time.
For instance, if the speaker is going to be sharing his/her screen or switching controls, then a pre-webinar dry run should be made wherein the speaker can practice before doing it live. It’s always best to find out where mistakes could occur before the actual webinar so as to limit time wastage.

Post Webinar Follow-up

Post the webinar, proper follow up with event attendees and sending an email or text thanking them goes a long way to generate goodwill. The organizers can also ask their audience to provide feedback and rate their experience.
In addition, a recording can be sent to people who registered but were unable to attend the webinar.
Freebies or webinar highlights can be distributed that encourage people to take the next step with the company or attend a future webinar.
